- Is the vault fireproof?
- Yes.
- Who can access my box?
- Access can only be given to people that are registered on our system that the account holder has authorized.
- Do I need ID?
- Yes, anyone who provides custodial services (namely safety deposit boxes) are required to "Know Your Customer" and this includes taking photo identification.
- How long does it take to set up?
- 15 minutes, access to your safe deposit box can be granted directly afterwards.
- What happens if I die?
- We recommend that you nominate a Next of Kin, or alternatively mention in your Will that you have a safe deposit box. When a death certificate is produced access can be granted to the correct person/s.
- Can any government department access my safe deposit box?
- Access will be granted only by way of a Search Warrant.
- Do I have to declare what’s in my box?
- No.
- How many times can I access my box?
- Unlimited access to your box during office hours.
- What can I put in my box? Anything that is important to you!
- e.g. Important Documents, Passports, Titles, Wills, Insurance Documents, marriage certificates, photos, jewelery, memorabilia, heirlooms, letters, negatives, bullion, money, personal items, back up tapes.
- Can I add someone under 18?
- Yes you can register a minor. If you choose to have a child registered they will have the same access rights as the account holder unless otherwise stated.
- How many people can I have registered to access my safe deposit box?
- You can have as many registered people as you like, however, they would be required to share the keys amongst themselves as only 2 keys are issued with each safe deposit box.
- Can I have dual access with another person?
- If you decide that access should only be granted to two people simultaneously then we can programme the computers for only this to occur.
- What are your requirements to open a Safe Deposit Box?
- You must be 18 years of age and possess a valid form of identification.
- Are foreigners eligible to open Safe Deposit Boxes?
- Yes, a valid passport is required
- Can I include my child’s name in my existing Safe Deposit Box as a joint hirer?
- Yes, to be an eligible Safe Deposit Box joint hirer, your child must be above 18 years of age.
- Do I need to place a key deposit or Fixed Deposit as collateral?
- A refundable key deposit of R500 is required.
- Is there a limit to how many Safe Deposit Boxes I can hold?
- No, there is no limit to the number of Safe Deposit Boxes you may have
- What are the sizes and rental rates of your Safe Deposit Boxes?

- Are there any prohibited items that cannot be stored?
- For starters, nothing illegal or dangerous. In addition, you should not store any document in your Safe Deposit Box that you (or someone else on your behalf) might need to get to immediately in case of an emergency. This might include a Power of Attorney document, medical care directives or funeral or burial instructions. Weapons of any kind, explosives, gas canisters, liquid items, flammable items and live organic material cannot be stored.
- Are multiple people allowed to access the box?
- Only two hirers are allowed to access the box and a maximum of two keys will be provided. All hirers must be above 18.
- How safe is a Safe Deposit Box?
- A vault full of Safe Deposit Boxes is your best bet when it comes to fire, flood, heat, explosion, burglary or other disaster or damage. However, for maximum protection, seal stored items in airtight, labeled containers. At Knox, our Safe Deposit Boxes are protected by security that is second to none.
